Liquid Notes does exactly that by analysing harmonies, substituting chords, altering their function, adding tension, building progressions and delivering suggestions. The final touches and drum/percussion tracks are then added in the DAW. Working with plugins and drones in Synfire can be distracting. The insight is that Synfire's concepts (encoding building block by figures, late rendering into notes based on harmonic context and parameters) is basically extremly close to natural genetic principles which has created the enormous variation in living nature. For auditioning while working in Synfire I use my trusty old JV1080 in GM mode.
